Design Philosophy

The boutique hotel in Psiri seeks to embody the vibrant and eclectic spirit of its historic surroundings. Drawing from Psiri's heritage of craftsmanship, small industries, and its artistic revival, the design fuses traditional elements with modern art and raw industrial aesthetics to create a warm, inviting, and private oasis. The hotel will serve as both a reflection of Athens’ timeless character and a sanctuary for guests seeking an atmospheric and intimate experience.

 

Design Elements

1. Exterior Design

• Corten Steel Facade: A dynamic corten steel facade will evoke a sense of timelessness, inspired by the patinated metals commonly found in Psiri's workshops. The weathered appearance will create a natural connection to the district’s industrial heritage.

• Layered Transparency: Decorative metal screens, inspired by traditional Greek patterns, will provide privacy while casting intricate shadows that shift throughout the day, blending historic charm with modern functionality.

• Green Accents: Vertical gardens and potted Mediterranean plants (such as olive trees and lavender) will soften the industrial materials, creating a welcoming street presence.

2. Interior Design

• Lobby & Public Spaces:

  • The reception area will feature a mix of raw materials: polished concrete floors, exposed brick walls, and timber beams salvaged from local sources.

  • A curated collection of contemporary art from local Athenian artists will juxtapose these raw materials, adding vibrancy and cultural depth.

  • Furniture will combine handcrafted wood and metal with plush textiles, balancing industrial strength with warmth and comfort.

• Rooms:

  • Each guest room will tell a story of Psiri, with headboards made from reclaimed wood or metalwork crafted by local artisans.

  • Raw materials like unfinished wood, stone, and blackened steel will be softened with luxurious linens, warm lighting, and earthy tones.

  • Subtle design details, such as ceramic tiles inspired by traditional Greek patterns, will be integrated into bathrooms and decorative elements.

• Private Courtyard:

  • A central courtyard, shielded from the bustling streets, will serve as a tranquil escape. Industrial-style pergolas, adorned with climbing plants, will offer shade while celebrating the district’s history of small-scale industry and artistry.

• Boutique Art Gallery: An intimate gallery space will showcase rotating exhibits of local and international art, blending hospitality with cultural enrichment.

• Inspired Culinary Experience: A rooftop bar and restaurant will feature views of the Acropolis, offering a modern interpretation of Greek cuisine made with locally sourced ingredients.
